HYSIA at the Philippine Urban Pest Management Summit 2025

HYSIA was honoured to participate in the inaugural Philippine Urban Pest Management Summit #PUPMS2025 held on May 22-23, 2025, in Manila. Hosted by the Philippine Council of Pest Management Associations (PCAP) and the Pest Free Philippines Management Operators Association (PFPMOA), this summit marked a significant milestone for the pest management industry in the Philippines.

The event brought together a dynamic group of experts, innovators, and stakeholders united by a shared commitment to advancing urban pest management practices.

Key Highlights from the Summit

Multi-Sector Collaboration

We were thrilled to see strong participation from key sectors, including:

  • Food and Drug Administration (FDA Philippines)
  • Department of the Interior and Local Government
  • CropLife Philippines
  • Various Local Government Units (LGUs).

Their contributions to panel discussions on regulatory frameworks, food safety standards, and pest management practices provided invaluable insights into the evolving industry landscape.

The summit also covered critical topics including urban bee conservation, sustainability practices, the One Health concept, and leadership strategies – highlighting the growing need for integrated, forward-thinking approaches to pest management that balance safety, sustainability, and public health.

HYSIA’s Technical Lecture

As part of the summit, Jo Lynn Teh, BCE from HYSIA delivered a highly engaging technical lecture titled: “Aligning Pesticide Formulations with Equipment and Treatment Surfaces for Safe and Effective Application.”

In this session, Jo Lynn shared her insights on the critical role of judicious pesticide selection for ensuring safety, efficacy, and sustainability in pest management. Here are the three key takeaways from her lecture:

Here are the three key takeaways:

  1. The Importance of Formulation Knowledge

  • Each pesticide formulation has unique chemistry and performance characteristics.
  • Understanding these differences – especially how they interact with different surfaces – is essential before application.
  1. Critical Equipment-Surface-Pesticide Compatibility Factors

  • Choosing the correct pesticide formulation is only part of the process.
  • The key responsibility is to align the formulation with the right treatment surfaces and compatible equipment.
  • Incorrect combinations can lead to ineffective pest control and safety hazards.
  1. Proper Label Compliance for Safety and Efficacy

  • Pesticide labels contain critical instructions for safe application.
  • User manuals for equipment are equally crucial.
  • Using the wrong equipment with the wrong pesticide is a disaster waiting to happen.

Strong Industry Commitment to Sustainability

The enthusiastic engagement from delegates and exhibitors underscored the industry’s strong commitment to enhancing efficacy, regulatory compliance, and sustainable pest management practices.

We look forward to continuing this vital conversation and contributing to a future where innovation and sustainability go hand-in-hand.

As we continue to collaborate towards a safer, more sustainable, and disease-free urban environment, HYSIA remains committed to supporting the ongoing evolution of pest management practices.
