8th Singapore International Dengue Workshop 2024: Bridging Sectors for a Dengue-Free City

A significant milestone in the global fight against dengue, the 8th Singapore International Dengue Workshop took place in Singapore in November 2024. Co-organized with the World Health Organization (WHO), National Environment Agency (NEA), Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), and National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID), the event brought together delegates from 24 countries.

Graced by Minister of Sustainability and Environment Grace Fu, the workshop emphasized the theme, “Bridging Sectors for a Dengue-Free City,” highlighting the importance of collaboration in combating this public health challenge.

HYSIA’s Contributions

HYSIA was honored to contribute to this event, through Jo-Lynn Teh, BCE, delivering a key technical lecture on Day 4 titled “Aligning Pesticide Formulations with Equipment and Treatment Surfaces for Effective Applications.” 

Effective vector control measures are vital for reducing the morbidity associated with dengue, and the role of pesticide formulations in this effort cannot be overstated. Her insights emphasized selecting the correct formulations and equipment to maximize safety and efficacy in dengue vector management programs.

Following her presentation, delegates participated in live equipment demonstrations facilitated by the Singapore Pest Management Association (SPMA), gaining practical exposure to advanced vector control techniques.
